We often talk of DCC as a family. There are many reasons for that, but one of the amazing signs of that is that many or our students come back home.

Sometimes they just stop and visit during their breaks from college. They can be spotted hugging their teachers, sharing their stories of college, and even talking to classes about what to expect or about their field of study.

Sometimes, usually after college, they come back to share in the “Central Experience” as an adult. They coach, help with activities, set up for musicals, or serve as guest speakers for classes.

Sometimes they come back to teach here. We have four alumni teaching in the middle school alone and several others throughout the school.

Sometimes they come back as parents. Bringing their children to a school where they hope they have an experience of family like they did. Then as parents, they become board members, committee members, homeroom moms and dads, coaches and facilitators.

Life at DCC rarely ends at graduation.

So when Mrs. Kruise asked the Class of 2017 to come back for lunch on December 22, it wasn’t a surprise that it was a great event.  They had such fun catching up with each other and their teachers.  They shared stories of their first semester of college and the great experiences they’ve had so far.  There was still that wonderful sense of family.

They also filled out surveys about their experience at Central and how they felt it affected their college experience.  Most of them felt they were prepared well academically.  Several students felt their writing and speaking skills were an asset.  Others mentioned that they felt that their self-confidence grew through their Central years and several said “Don’t change anything”.

Hopefully this will become a tradition at DCC.  We feel like our students are part of our family, and it is such a joy to see them and know they are doing well.
