#TBT Throwback to 1987 – Sister Joachim, DCC Art Teacher and Recycler

Sister Joachim Stabler was an art teacher at DCC for many years.  She was part of the Sisters of Mercy and had a fun-loving personality.  She had been in the Navy during WWII and was a convert to Catholicism. She loved working with her students and having a good laugh.  She also loved cheering on her favorite sports teams.  However, she had a deeply spiritual side that came out in the art that she created.  Many of her friends have a beautiful drawing of Mother Teresa done by her hand.  Also many would remember that wood carving was her passion and beautiful birds her favorite subjects.

Those who knew her felt encouraged by her, especially her students.  She also reminded us of the importance of recycling and taking care of nature.  Crushing cans was her side hobby: it not only was good for the environment, but it helped to fund her students’ projects.

Her love of God spilled into her love of people.  Although she has been gone awhile, she will always be a part of the Central family!
