“Court is Back in Session!”: DCC Mock Trial Team Prepares for Season

Holly Deemer

This year, DCC’s Mock Trial team is facing unexpected challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Outside of wearing masks and only practicing during school hours, the team also faces the challenge of only competing virtually.  Usually to kick off the season, the team goes to University of Pittsburgh to meet with law students and hold a trial, but because of COVID, this will no longer happen.

All trials against other schools will take place over Zoom, but that is not deterring the team.  “I am very hopeful for our upcoming season, we have lots of new faces who are eager to compete,” Advisor, Mrs. Korthaus, said.

The team received their case last week and began practicing this week. The case this year follows a potential poisoning during a “Zombie Apocalypse” event.  The defense attorneys are Harrison Starr, Derek Strouse, and Megan Ochs.  Our prosecution attorneys are JP Piccirillo, Holly Deemer, and Alyssa Johnston.  Finally, our witnesses are Michaela Armanini, Sophia Ginther, Paris Farley, Josh Slifko, and Maria Werner.

We wish the team good luck as they experience the first ever “COVID Trial” season!
