DCC Sixth Graders Develop STEM Skills to Share Math Concepts

Students in Mrs. Lauren Rice’s sixth grade math enrichment class utilized Makey Makey and Scratch coding to develop STEM skills and then use those to share math concepts.  The Makey Makey allows students to use alligator clips attached to any conductive material to control the keyboard of your computer while hooked up to any game or coded program.  After testing if items in the rooms were conductive, they were able to use those items to create a controller for the game of their choice.  One group made a giant dance pad for DDR, one made a touch pad for a piano and one group  created a steering wheel for a driving game.  Now that they understand how it all works, they will combine it with their own coding to create interactive posters that will read geometry facts to students.
